Adolescents with ADHD / LD often feel isolated and have difficulty being hopeful about the future Youth engagement STREAM – Youth Strengthened Together through Engagement & Mentorship (YeS ) – is a mentorship and education program for youth who are affected by learning disabilities and/or attention deficit disorders. A 7 session course for youth diagnosed with ADHD / LD ages 12 – 15.
The objectives of the course are to engage, educate and empower youth by:
a) Increasing knowledge and understanding of ADHD / LD and how they affect interaction with their environment
b) Becoming aware of strategies that can be applied to make life more manageable and enjoyable
c) Building new skills while experiencing positive peer affiliation
d) Experiencing the latest approaches & technologies
Course Outline (Seven evening sessions)
Using an activity based format to introduce ADHD / LD and its impact; how your brain works and strategies and exercises to make it work better; recognizing unique characteristics and strengths; skill building relearning, organization, problem solving, conflict resolution, emotional IQ, self management, dealing with the school, siblings and peers.
