Children and young people that experience learning disabilities often feel like they’re struggling alone. At the Learning Disabilities Association of Manitoba (LDAM) we provide a place for young people to learn skills to manage their disabilities while meeting others who are going through similar challenges.
Our upcoming YeS -L (Youth Engagement STREAM Leadership) Program will do just that. Over seven sessions, young people 15 – 21-years-old will have the chance to connect with others experiencing learning disabilities and/or ADHD. The program will lead them through activities that will help them recognize their strengths while building cognitive, self-management, emotional IQ, self-advocacy, and leadership skills.
An important part of the program is teaching the participants how to share their awareness and skills with younger youth with learning disabilities and/or ADHD to help facilitate the same growth. We hope to create future community leaders here in Winnipeg who are able to contribute to building a more supportive and empathetic environment for youth with learning disabilities. YeS-L will increase awareness, engagement, and skills, as well as empower youth to be leaders in their community.
