Volunteering

Empower individuals with learning disabilities to thrive

Volunteers are integral to the success of many non-profit agencies and Learning Disabilities Association of Manitoba is no different.  We rely on volunteers in all facets of our operations from administration to working with our clients.

Current Volunteer Opportunities:

barton PROGRAM tutor (in person and online opportunity)

As a Barton reading tutor you will work one-on-one with children, youth, and/or adults to improve their reading, writing, and spelling skills due to reading difficulties or reading disabilities. The Barton Reading and Writing System is an internationally recognized system (based on the Orton-Gillingham approach). It has been designed to teach the fundamentals of reading and spelling by breaking down words into smaller, more manageable chunks. It teaches the phonemic structure of written language using a multi-sensory approach, which recognizes that people who struggle with reading and/or spelling learn best by involving all their senses: visual, auditory, tactile and kinesthetic.
