Building Strong Readers

LDAM now offers the Barton Reading & Spelling program. It provides tailored, one-on-one tutoring for children, teens and adults who struggle with spelling, reading and writing due to dyslexia or another learning disability.

After just a few months, participants are already making great progress.

Becky reached out to LDAM for help because her son, Brendan, always seemed somber and reluctant when getting ready for school. He worried other students wouldn’t be able to understand him when he spoke and was anxious about reading out loud as he struggled to decode words - sometimes desperately trying to guess them. His self-confidence was terribly low, and she knew he needed specialized help.

Becky advocated with Brendan’s school to provide extra reading and spelling support and signed him up for Barton tutoring at LDAM. We are now collaborating with the school’s reading clinician who uses elements of the Barton program to help him.

Brendan loves his tutor and looks forward to his twice-weekly sessions at LDAM. And Becky is thrilled with Brendan’s renewed self-confidence.

Brendan now knows special ‘tricks’ to sound out words he doesn’t recognize and enjoys reading a lot more – in fact, for the first time in his life he is taking the initiative to read at home.

LDAM is grateful for the many volunteers and donors in our community whose support makes transformational experiences like this possible every day.

If you are able, please consider giving hope to more people like Brendan by donating today. Right now, every dollar you give will be matched, doubling your impact. Donate now.
